WILLEMSTAD - Starting in August, the resocialization program called Learning Inside Out will be implemented in Sentro Di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK) with approximately seventy inmates already registered for the training. The project aims to provide various courses at SBO level, enabling prisoners to become tailors, bricklayers, mechanics, painters, or cooks. The courses will last for a year, and upon completion, the prisoners will receive a recognized diploma. The chef's diploma will allow them to work in the prison kitchen.
The Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato, emphasized that the resocialization program prioritizes education and practical skills that can benefit the inmates in their daily lives. The courses are designed to help prisoners in their integration process and prevent recidivism. In addition to promoting the integration process, the program also has a preventive purpose.
According to the probation service, many prisoners struggle with integration and employment after their release from prison. They often feel unprepared and unproductive after their incarceration. The resocialization program aims to address this issue by providing inmates with practical skills that they can use to secure employment after their release.
Currently, the prison is being set up to accommodate the program. The implementation of the resocialization program highlights the government's commitment to reducing recidivism rates and improving the reintegration process for prisoners in Curaçao.
