Schools closed on Friday, call on employees to start later

WILLEMSTAD - Schools in Curaçao will remain closed on Friday. Deputy Prime Minister Sithree van Heydoorn, who acts for Gilmar Pisas, has announced this. The Prime Minister is currently in New York for a United Nations meeting.

With this decision, the government wants to avoid crowds on the streets. According to Van Heydoorn, the approaching storm will cause a lot of flooding in certain areas, which will cause problems for traffic.

In addition, the minister is appealing to employers not to allow their staff to start work until 10 a.m. on Friday. Civil servants have also been given permission to be present at work later. Van Heydoorn emphasizes that the call does not apply to vital professions.

The minister asks everyone to stay at home on Thursday evening and states that it is not necessary to go to the supermarket to stock up on groceries. The government will again inform the population about the weather situation on Friday morning.
