WILLEMSTAD - The Government Accountants Bureau (SBAB) has reported a financial loss of 233,541 guilders for the year 2023, according to its annual report. The deficit is primarily attributed to the costs associated with an awareness campaign, which was presented in the form of game shows. Despite the financial shortfall, the SBAB emphasized that the campaign was necessary to achieve its objectives.
In 2023, the SBAB received 20.3 million guilders in funding from the government. Of this amount, 5.2 million guilders were specifically allocated for enhanced audits and compliance measures. This additional financial support enabled the SBAB to successfully complete several projects aimed at digitization and strengthening audit processes.
The organization highlighted that it managed its resources carefully throughout the year, maintaining a strong liquidity position despite the challenges. Between 2011 and 2023, the SBAB received 76.8 million guilders less than originally budgeted. However, this shortfall was mitigated by the completion of various projects in both Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
The SBAB's efforts in 2023 demonstrate its commitment to fulfilling its mission despite financial constraints, ensuring that important government audit and compliance projects were not compromised.
