WILLEMSTAD - The Stichting Belasting Accountants Bureau (SBAB) has initiated a series of inspections focused on monitoring the sales registration of products in stores and minimarkets across Curaçao. SBAB Director Sherwin Casper confirmed these actions, which aim to ensure proper sales reporting by retailers.
According to Casper, the checks are conducted remotely, observing customer purchases to verify that items are officially registered in the store’s cash register system. In past incidents, some store owners reported lower sales figures than expected, while later inspections showed steady sales activity.
To obtain a complete picture, inspections are scheduled at the beginning, middle, and end of each month, enabling SBAB to track sales trends within specific locations. By examining these intervals, the bureau gathers preliminary insights before performing an official inspection.
“These inspections allow us to gauge each store's sales activities while also aiding in the verification of profit and income tax filings,” said Casper, adding that the findings support SBAB’s ongoing efforts to maintain tax compliance among retailers on the island.
