Sand from Sahara in the air

WILLEMSTAD - The wind brought Sahara sand to the islands last weekend. The Meteorological Department (Meteo) reported this. The view of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire is therefore a bit hazy.

Sahara sand in the Caribbean is a normal phenomenon according to the Meteo. It happens three to four times a year. Especially after the passage of tropical storms and hurricanes, a lot of sand is taken from Africa.

Even now, a tropical wave in this region is responsible for this phenomenon.

According to the Meteo, there is no health risk, but people with respiratory problems must take it into account.
