Sales tax to be changed to General Spending Tax from August

WILLEMSTAD - Financial experts have indicated that the change from the sales tax from 6% to a general spending tax of 9% is not sufficient.

This should actually be increased to 15%. Only then would the government receive sufficient income from indirect taxes to cover the expenditure from the Public Administration. The sales tax will be converted to a General Spending Tax (ABB) in August.

The government has decided to do this because it is not currently receiving all sales taxes. The ABB would be collected at once when the products are imported. This way the government hopes to be able to collect the tax faster.
