WILLEMSTAD - The current draft of the Gambling Ordinance (LOK) should not have been presented to Parliament, according to the Advisory Council (RvA). A majority of parliamentarians agree with this and demand clarification from the Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania (MFK).
Parliamentarians Steven Croes (PAR) and Steven Martina (MAN) emphasize that the concept of the LOK is far from complete, with confusing formulations in, among others, chapter two on 'Prohibited acts' in online gaming.
Martina expresses concern about the Gaming Control Authority in the form of a foundation, which, according to him, is dependent on the government and may experience political influence. He emphasizes that the concept is in violation of the Country Package provisions and the RvA advice.
Quincy Girigorie (PAR) and Sheldry Osepa (PNP) emphasize the need for careful structuring of the online gambling sector while fearing possible damage to the existing online gaming sector.
In addition, several parliamentarians, including Martina, Osepa, and Juniël Carolina (MFK), express concern about the impact of the LOK on traditional games of chance such as Bingo and 'Bon Ku Ne', due to their social and cultural value. They also argue for further legalization of number sales and a structured approach to horse racing and 'Bashabou' games.
The meeting in the Central Committee of Parliament was concluded after a round of questions to be continued at another time. Written reports will be prepared, and Silvania will answer the questions then.
