Rennox Calmes MP wants an interpreter to speak Papiamentu on Ipko

THE HAGUE - Member of Parliament Rennox Calmes of Trabou Pa Korsou (TPK) indicated at the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (Ipko) that he wanted an interpreter to be able to give his speech in Papiamento.

The TPK leader indicated that he had already requested an interpreter from the previous Ipko and that this had been arranged immediately for Sint Maarten. Calmes calls the situation a "democratic deficit". The Curaçao parliamentarian was given the opportunity to speak in Papiamento for several minutes, but the Ipko chairman interrupted him later. The Dutch delegation showed some irritated looks.

"This may be difficult for you, but it is also difficult for me to pretend that I can speak your language just as well," said Calmes.
