Proteus underwater station expected in 2026

WILLEMSTAD - The underwater research station Proteus is expected to be completed in 2026 near Fuik. Prime Minister Gilmar 'Pik' Pisas announced this via social media.

Proteus is to become the underwater variant of the International Space Station (ISS). The French aquanaut and filmmaker Fabien Cousteau wants to use this to create a futuristic place for ocean research. With an area of 370 square meters, Proteus is to become the world's largest underwater research station.

Last week, the Curaçao government held a meeting with international engineers and scientists about this. The station is expected to generate $400 million a year in tourism.
