Possible new restrictive corona measures in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - The Pisas government is considering tightening up the corona measures again. Based on information from the Public Health Department (GGD) and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the increased number of positive tests may be a reason to intervene.

In just two weeks, the number of infections has increased from 45 to 686 active corona cases. Young people, in particular, are infected and the authorities suspect the beach and nightlife of the enormous increase.

RIVM in the Netherlands called the corona situation on Curaçao 'alarming' on Friday. The number of infections is now 310 per 100,000 inhabitants.

For comparison: in Aruba that is 58 per 100,000, in Bonaire 108 and in Sint Maarten 63 corona patients per 100,000 inhabitants.

This week the authorities will meet again to evaluate the past weekend, partly with a view to the behaviour of the public at nightlife.

Possible new measures could include the introduction – again – of a curfew and a restriction on access to beaches, bars, and restaurants.
