Possible embargo on the “Resolute” ship could prohibit the ship from leaving Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - The “Resolute” ship that arrived in Curaçao on Tuesday and operates under the Portuguese flag (Madeira), cannot leave Curaçao if there is an embargo on it. Authorities are currently verifying the embargo that one of the parties has placed on the boat. While waiting for a solution to this, the ship must go through a normal "port authorization" process. This means that the authorities are treating this case as a "routine resupply".

Curaçao also received a request for cooperation from the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela because the ship was involved in a collision with a Venezuelan coastguard ship, where consequently, the Venezuelan ship was sunk. The crew ended up being rescued by the Venezuelan Coast Guard. Last night Curaçao prohibited the ship from leaving to be able to do verifications. It has been established that based on the law of international treaties, it was a conflict between Venezuela and Portugal and in which Curaçao, or the Dutch Kingdom as such, is not involved.

It is a small cruise ship, which now only has a crew on board. Based on the current measures of the government in relation to the Coronavirus, they will not be able to leave the boat. The ship came to Curaçao solely for resupply.
