WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao police reacted yesterday afternoon in a press conference to the various videos that have been seen on social media where police agents cracked down during carnival parades in recent days. According to the police, these are events in which officers had to intervene in fights that got out of hand. Officers have been frequently offended during the past few days and challenged during the carnival celebrations.
According to spokesperson Imro Zwerwer, all cases where officers acted violently are being investigated. But above all, he called on the people to behave today during the Marcha di Despedida (Farewell March) and not to challenge the police.
The police say they act directly with people who insult or challenge officers.
