Parliamentary delegation attends presentation by Bogotá's Habitat Secretariat

Local | By Press release March 8, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday, March 7, 2024, the parliamentary delegation of Curaçao attended the presentation at the Secretaría del Habitat (SDHT) of the municipality in Bogotá. Mr. Alejandro Quintero provided the delegation with an overview of the activities the secretariat is responsible for, along with their goals and vision in the field of housing.

As previously indicated in the prior communications, the new housing management initiative called "Mi Casa Ya" has been elevated to a national level, under state control. However, each city has its own internal housing policy. This essentially means that each city can give its own content to this project, emphasizing which group within their community puts emphasis on the various housing structures and how they manage them internally.

In this case, SDHT outlined their strategic approach in five key points.

Efficient Administration of Resources: Addressing the efficient allocation of resources concerning the supply and demand for social housing.

Incentivizing Sustainable Development: Promoting sustainable development of social housing through public and private instruments.

Improving Access and Coverage: Enhancing access and coverage of essential public services.

Promotion and Development of Public Works Projects: Encouraging the development of public works projects to revitalize territories.

Strategies for Improved Housing Conditions: Developing strategies to improve the possibility of inhabiting dignified housing.

Based on the mentioned strategies, SDHT explained their role. Examples include promoting and generating housing solutions and intervening in the most vulnerable neighborhoods.

There is also a proposal for revitalization. Here, they refer to the opportunity for housing development on transportation infrastructure grounds. Consideration is given to investments in cable cars for access to neighborhoods in Bogotá.

On the grounds of public service, approximately 7,300 households will benefit from financial incentives.

In the past, with previous projects like "Mi Casa Ya," various initiatives were started to build houses for residents, but for various reasons, the construction of these houses did not conclude. Here, SDHT sees an opportunity to reactivate the purchases and consequently reactivate housing. The intention is to come here as well with financial incentives to achieve this goal.

SDHT indicated that to reactivate the economy through housing, it is necessary to restore confidence in public incentives for families and provide tools to the construction sector. SDHT commits to activating the initiative process through various land urbanization programs and preference offerings.

Finally, SDHT emphasized that the national management of "Mi Casa Ya" provides an opportunity to realize various projects that they consider important for the city of Bogotá.
