WILLEMSTAD – The Parliament of Curaçao will begin its review of the draft budget for the 2026 fiscal year in the week of October 20. The timeline was confirmed in a letter from Parliament President Fergino Brownbill to Members of Parliament.
The initial phase, known as the article-by-article review, will take place in the Central Committee. During this stage, no ministers are present, and Members of Parliament (MPs) will have the opportunity to raise detailed questions about the figures and policy choices outlined in the draft budget. The government will later provide written responses in a document known as the “Nota naar aanleiding van het Verslag.”
For the broader general debates, which address the political and social implications of the budget, MPs must submit their written questions to the parliamentary secretariat no later than October 27.
Once the government’s responses are received, Parliament will move into a public plenary session to debate and vote on the budget. That final stage is tentatively scheduled for the week of December 15, just ahead of Parliament’s year-end recess, which begins on December 25.
The process is expected to generate extensive debate as the 2026 budget will set the tone for government priorities in the coming year.
