Parliament Approves Plans to Renovate Building for New Headquarters

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Parliament has approved plans to renovate an existing building for its new headquarters, with preference given to the former Aqualectra headquarters on Pater Euwensweg in Otrobanda.

During the meeting, it was decided that renovating an existing building would be more cost-effective than constructing a new one. Parliament Chairwoman Charetti America-Francisca described the decision as a significant step toward improving working conditions for legislators.

An earlier proposal to temporarily move to the Wilhelminaplein area is now being reconsidered, primarily due to logistical challenges.

In addition, the People's National Party (PNP) submitted a motion calling for stricter financial oversight of such housing projects, referencing previous cost overruns at the CMC and BOO site projects.
