WILLEMSTAD - Light panic among motorists caused a run at petrol stations yesterday afternoon. The reason for this was the news that employees of the Isla expressed their concern and, above all, anger at the recent developments surrounding the acquisition of the refinery.
Many drivers then decided to refuel in the expectation that the strike at Isla could disrupt the distribution of petrol and diesel.
There is no reason for this, according to distributor Curoil, because the company maintains strategic stocks for Curaçao and Bonaire, in principle, 3-months.
The Isla employees heard that Motiva Enterprises has dropped out as a party to take over the exploitation of the Isla. Reason to call a meeting in the trade union building of PWFC.
The current lease contract between PDVSA and the government expires at the end of this year. PDVSA itself is probably not able to continue operating because of the billions of investments that are needed.
Motiva Enterprises says that because of a corruption scandal, they do not want to take over the Curaçao Refinery. But possibly the tense situation between America and Venezuela is the real game breaker for breaking off negotiations with Curaçao.
