No "racist" Sinterklaas party in Curaçao due to corona

WILLEMSTAD - No harbor entry for Sinterklaas will be organized in Curacao this year. The organizers made this announcement this week.

Normally, the entry is a major event that is attended by thousands of children every year in the month of November. However, according to the organizers, it is better not to organize large events due to the corona crisis.

In addition, there are fears that fewer donations will come in from business owners, due to the poor financial situation which was caused by the corona crisis. The third reason is that many people in society consider the Celebration of Saint Nicholas and his helpers Black Pete as racist. A children's party should not cause discussion or tension in society, according to a statement
