THE HAGUE - Amid the escalating tensions between Venezuela and Guyana, there is reassurance that Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao face no increased threat. Minister of Defense, Ollongren, conveyed this message to the Dutch House of Representatives. 

Being neighboring territories, the Kingdom of the Netherlands is closely monitoring regional developments. The concerns over mounting tensions, which could potentially disrupt stability in the area, are echoed at the EU level. The Kingdom emphasizes the significance of Venezuela and Guyana respecting the decision of the International Court of Justice. It calls for restraint from any actions that might alter the existing status quo or exacerbate the situation, hindering the search for a resolution. 

Minister Ollongren highlighted that over 1,000 personnel, comprised of various Defense components, including military and civilian staff, are currently stationed in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Their presence is dedicated to handling military and police tasks in the region. 

This reassurance comes at a time when geopolitical tensions raise concerns globally, and the Kingdom remains vigilant in ensuring the safety and stability of its Caribbean territories.
