New math software pilot aims to boost learning for young students

WILLEMSTAD - A pilot project using the math software program Magrid has been launched in various schools across primary and special education on Curaçao. The program, designed for children aged 3 to 9 years old, not only focuses on mathematical knowledge but also on developing cognitive skills. A total of 435 students are participating in the trial, as announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (OWCS), Sithree ‘Cey’ van Heydoorn (MFK), in the parliament.

“What makes Magrid unique is that the software is completely language-independent. This allows all children, regardless of their proficiency in Papiamento, Dutch, or any other language, to have equal opportunities to learn the material. This makes the program particularly well-suited for children with diverse learning needs, such as autism, dyslexia, and ADHD,” said Van Heydoorn.

According to the minister, the Magrid method is scientifically grounded and based on an interactive curriculum developed by experienced educators familiar with the developmental stages of young children. As a result, the software is well-tailored to the level and needs of the students.

The pilot program is seen as the first step toward broader implementation. The ultimate goal is for all children on Curaçao to benefit from the advantages Magrid offers, the minister emphasized.
