Local | By Correspondent April 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Fundashon Museo Tula is taking its outreach efforts to the neighborhoods to provide education on the abolition of slavery. This endeavor aims to increase awareness and understanding within the local community about this part of history.

The project, called "Light Agent in the Neighborhood," kicks off with an information session on April 16 at the Sitek building, where existing staff members will be trained to share knowledge.

The light agents, who are already active in promoting education and awareness about the legacy of slavery, will receive additional training sessions. These sessions, totaling five, are designed to equip staff members with detailed knowledge about the abolition of slavery in 1863, its consequences, and the importance of restorative justice. The goal is not only to inform the community but also to inspire dialogue and reflection on the impact of slavery on contemporary society.

Fundashon Museo Tula underscores the importance of this educational effort, which goes beyond traditional methods of history transmission. By engaging directly with communities, the project aims to foster a deeper understanding and a stronger connection to the past. This initiative plays a crucial role in promoting an inclusive dialogue about Curaçao's slavery history and its enduring effects.

The "Light Agent in the Neighborhood" project emphasizes the importance of knowledge and understanding of slavery history as essential steps toward a just and informed community. By utilizing light agents as bridge builders, Museo Tula hopes to lay the groundwork for a lasting legacy of understanding and respect for shared history.
