Ministry warns students about dangers in the digital world

WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning (VVRP) and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (OWCS) have joined forces to raise awareness among students about the risks of the digital world. As part of the annual Cyber Security Awareness Month, which is held every October, the ministries, alongside experts, are visiting various schools in Curaçao to educate young people on cyber safety.

The awareness campaign kicked off on October 1, with visits to the C.J. Krijtschool and New Song College. During these sessions, students participate in workshops on cybersecurity, learning about the dangers they may encounter in digital environments and how to protect themselves. The aim of the campaign is to provide students with essential knowledge about safe online behavior, especially as they spend increasing amounts of time online for both school and leisure.

Cybersecurity has become a crucial issue, as many young people access the internet through smartphones, tablets, and computers. Without proper knowledge of how to handle threats such as hacking, phishing, and cyberbullying, they are at risk of falling victim to cybercrime. The workshops focus on not only recognizing these threats but also instilling safe internet habits.

The sessions are led by cybersecurity experts who, together with the two ministries, aim to raise students' awareness of the risks and teach them how to protect themselves. By providing practical information and tips, the ministries hope students will engage in more conscious and safer online activities.

These educational workshops are part of a broader campaign running throughout October. The ministry emphasizes the importance of young people being aware of digital dangers and encourages schools to actively participate in the campaign to increase awareness among students.

Cyber Security Awareness Month is an annual global initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of online safety. This year, Curaçao is focusing specifically on the younger generation, who spend a significant portion of their time online.
