WILLEMSTAD - The government began clearing the cardboard storage site at San Souci on Wednesday. Images show cardboard being loaded onto a truck. In addition to cardboard, there is also a significant amount of plastic and other waste at the location.
The court ruled in early May that the cardboard storage must be removed as soon as possible. The Ministry of GMN has repeatedly received complaints about the nuisance caused by the burning of cardboard at the storage site. According to the ministry, the resident burned the cardboard without a permit.
Despite multiple requests to remove the storage site, the resident did not comply. This issue has been ongoing since 2021. Now, the ministry has taken matters into its own hands.
It is not yet known whether the owner of the dump will be required to pay for the cleanup costs.
