Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on Dutch nationals and residents of Dutch Caribbean in Haiti to register

THE HAGUE - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging Dutch nationals and residents of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom in Haiti to register. The security situation in the country has deteriorated, particularly in the capital, Port-au-Prince, where the situation is extremely concerning.

It is not only Dutch nationals who are being called upon, but also individuals who have a permit for legal residence in the Netherlands or a valid permit for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, St. Eustatius, or Saba.

Registration is desired so that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows who is in Haiti. This way, they can keep them informed of developments and provide advice, for example, if they see opportunities to leave the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted Dutch nationals who have previously registered as residing in Haiti by phone. It appears that at the moment, only a very limited number of Dutch nationals are in Haiti. The ministry has not received any requests for assistance from Haiti so far.

The travel advice - which has long advised against traveling to Haiti and leaving the country - has been updated.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands does not have an embassy in Haiti. Services for Haiti are provided by the embassy in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the support of a Haitian Honorary Consul in Port-au-Prince.
