WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Steven Croes gave the starting shot last Saturday at the opening of the 2021 athletics season. That took place at the Ergilio Hato Stadium of Sentro Deportivo Korsou.

After the official opening, the athletes present took part in competitions that included various distances running and long jumping.

Croes says he is pleased with the enthusiasm with which the athletes still practice the sport, although the last year has brought many challenges for the Curaçao sport due to the corona pandemic.

He is full of praise for the work that the Federashon di Atletismo Kòrsou has done in recent years for the further development and innovation of athletics in Curaçao.

As a result, Curaçao has produced a number of athletes who have competed at an international level such as Churandy Martina, Taymir Burnet, Hensley Paulina, Christopher Garia, Denzel Comenentia and Nargelis Statia Pieter.
