Minister Larmonie-Cecilia: "Gasoline price must go down"

WILLEMSTAD - The Interim Minister of Economic Development Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia wants the gasoline price in Curaçao to go down structurally. The minister voiced this during a meeting with gas station owners and the Curaçao Business Association.

At the moment, 17.5 cents of the 2.22 guilders per liter of gasoline goes to the gas station owner. Larmonie-Cecilia wants to hold talks in the near future to arrive at a situation that will make both the gas station owners and the community happy.

"As Minister of Economy, I met with the sector of gas station operators, which consists of 26 gas stations in Curaçao," said Larmonie-Cecilia. She was assisted by Ramon Chong, who was initially to become Minister of MEO but encountered difficulties in the screening process.

“The aim of the meeting was to come up with a formula together to be able to offer citizens a more favourable price for gasoline. I emphasized that this should not be the case tomorrow, but that the population of Curaçao should start to notice the positive effect of a structurally reduced price for gasoline.”

Larmonie-Cecilia described the meeting with the various pump station owners as 'firm but substantive'. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to continue the conversation jointly, in the form of working groups, by exchanging information and opinions.
