Minister Alcalá-Wallé under fire after Facebook post

WILLEMSTAD - There is tension in the coalition about a Facebook message from Education Minister Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé. She is currently under fire because, contrary to the rules, she was also active as a director of a foundation.

On Facebook, she says that at least she did not make a decision in the Council of Ministers to raise rates for insurance companies and to benefit from it. According to some in the coalition, that is an unacceptable reference to former minister Dr. Steven Martina who had to resign last year because of a conflict of interest.

Members of the coalition say that the country is going through some difficult times right now and that there must be union in the coalition. Therefore, they will wait until the Prime Minister who is the leader of the ruling party PAR to return from his trip to the Netherlands to resolve this issue.
