MFK MP asks questions to minister of justice about products delivered to prison

WILLEMSTAD - The Member of Parliament for the opposition party MFK, Juniel Carolina writes in a letter to Minister Quincy Girigori of Justice that the food products delivered to prison contain too much sugar which is unhealthy for the prisoners.

Carolina says that the supermarket in charge of the delivery of these products wants to get rid of them because they don’t sell well and places them on the list of items for prisoners. That is why this list is now full of products that contain a lot of sugar, so that the energy level of detainees rises.

Carolina writes that he has taken note of the prisoners' protest about the products they can purchase through the cafeteria.

“According to our information, the prison has a cooperation agreement with a single supermarket for the delivery of products, which the detainees can buy with their own money through the cafeteria. However, the detainees returned the list last week because several products that they were able to buy before were no longer on it.”

Carolina indicates in his letter that the detainees have also noticed that the supermarket wants to get rid of certain products that are not being sold well by placing them on the list. The cafeteria’s list is now full of products that contain a lot of sugar.

Carolina wonders if the minister is aware of the discontent among the prisoners about the products that are placed on the cafeteria’s list.

Carolina also wants to know how that supermarket was chosen to deliver products to prison. He asks if this took place through a public tender and what were the criteria.
