Meteo less accurate due to faulty radar

WILLEMSTAD - The weather radar of the Meteorological Service Curaçao is defective. The service reports this on their Facebook page. The problem will be fixed this week.

The Meteo did not share any rain and lightning information via the radar images during these days. The service apologizes to all its users in the aviation and shipping sector and to the general public.

An investigation by the technical department of the Meteo and the manufacturer Vaisala shows that a device, which is part of the signal transmission, needs to be replaced.

The Meteo indicates that they are missing various radar products in order to better analyze the weather situation. The radar information is very important for residents of Aruba, Bonaire, the coastal areas and the interior of part of Venezuela and the extreme northeast of Colombia. Especially in the hurricane and rainy season, in which the countries are now.

Because of the good cooperation with the Meteo, manufacturer Vaisala will replace the device free of charge. The device is expected to arrive in Curaçao this week.
