MEO: "The entire community suffers from party organizers"

WILLEMSTAD - Quite a few videos have been circulated on social media of parties where there has been dancing in recent days. In several cases it was a wedding, where no facemasks were worn and no distance was kept. Ronny Cornelis, head of the inspection department at MEO, says it is a disgrace.

He explains that he gets a lot of questions about these parties. Several business owners believe that if one type of activity is allowed, the other should be too. According to Cornelis, it was clearly stated at government press conferences that dancing is not allowed, as this greatly increases the risk of contamination.

This is also painfully clear now that one of the parties is classified as a 'super spread event'. "Those who organized this party are responsible and will have to bear the consequences." According to Cornelis, however, nothing can be done about it now, it is too little too late because the parties have already taken place.

It remains to be seen what the consequences for the community will be. According to Cornelis, it is now clear that the population suffers from organizers who do not adhere to the rules. "Because thanks to them, there is a good chance that the measures will be extended and that people who have properly adhered to the rules will still be 'punished'," said the head of the inspectorate.

Cornelis concludes with the comment that it is 'unacceptable that some organizers are willing to take the risk of causing a complete catastrophe'.
