WILLEMSTAD - The gate at Marriott Hotel has been removed. This week a commotion arose because a fence closed off the beach at Marriott. A well-known reporter, therefore, organized a demonstration yesterday against the closure of the beach.

Just before this would start, the gate was largely removed. The beach is now accessible again.

Marriott was sold several years ago when the ground lease rules changed. Lawyer Achim Henriquez explains that, unlike before, Marriott Beach has been public since 2016 and must be accessible to everyone. It can therefore no longer be closed.
