WILLEMSTAD - MAN/PIN member Eugene Cleopa finds it scandalous that Minister of Traffic and Transport Charles Cooper (MFK) is hiding behind a letter from former Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath. According to Cleopa, Cooper is using this letter as an excuse to withhold information about the deal with Oryx Midstream for the management of the installations at Bullenbaai and the Isla refinery for the next 30 years.
Cleopa is responding to a message from Cooper on social media. In that message, Cooper uses Rhuggenaath's letter as a reason not to provide information about the deal with Oryx Midstream. Cleopa finds this strange because Cooper had previously criticized this letter.
Rhuggenaath had provided information to the parliament about the negotiations with Klesh. "I know for sure, because as a parliamentarian, I ensured that the parliament had access to the contract," Cleopa said. The agreement with Klesh was terminated by Cooper, precisely after he had gained access.
Cleopa believes that MFK voters have the right to an explanation of what has happened. The voters were promised that the refinery would reopen. Cleopa points out that various individuals, such as MFK followers, union leader Wendell Meulen, former Prime Minister Maria Liberia-Peters, and lawyer Eldon 'Peppie' Sulvaran, have criticized the government's handling of the deal.
According to Cleopa, Cooper, instead of criticizing others, should explain why he is hiding behind Rhuggenaath's letter. He should also clarify why Oryx Midstream has not been granted a lease for the lands of the oil terminal and the Isla refinery, and what the company offers as collateral when seeking financing for its future projects.
