WILLEMSTAD - A large section of mangroves has been removed at Balneario di Santa Cruz, behind the beach of Santa Cruz. Stichting Uniek Curacao announced this via social media. 

The foundation suspects that the plants were removed with a digger or a Caterpillar. Photos shared by Stichting Uniek show the mangroves have been cut back. Tire tracks of a possible digger are also still visible. Stichting Uniek does not know exactly what happened. 

The volunteer organization is calling on anyone with more information about the removal of the vegetation to get in touch.
