Low turnout expected at European Parliament elections

WILLEMSTAD - During the elections for the European Parliament on 23 May, residents of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba can also vote. But the turnout is again expected to be poor.

In 2014, a total of 1610 people on the islands took the trouble to vote. There are 7 different polling stations on Bonaire, 1 on St. Eustatius and 1 on Saba. Voters can vote from half-past seven in the morning to nine in the evening. All residents can vote on the BES islands. Not on Curaçao, Aruba and St. Maarten.

There the Dutch were able to register well before the elections for a so-called letter vote. These must be handed in when the Dutch ballot boxes close. The total number of people who actually did this in Curacao is 734. In Aruba, 922 people registered for the letter vote.
