Local fishing boat in trouble at sea

WILLEMSTAD - Last Sunday, the Coast Guard's Maritime Operations Center (MOC) received a report of a local fishing boat in distress. The captain informed the MOC that his boat was taking on water and that it was already up to their knees. Immediately after the captain's report, the MOC contacted the coastguard support center Hato to fly out the helicopter to assist those on board. Another local fishing boat also sailed to the indicated location with a water pump to help the vessel in distress.

When the Coast Guard helicopter arrived at the location, the two people on board were hoisted up for their safety. The local vessel with the water pump that wanted to offer help was unable to do anything upon arrival. The local fishing boat had sunk to such an extent that it could no longer be saved. The two people on board were safely taken to Hato by helicopter.
