WILLEMSTAD – On Monday morning, the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Caribbean Coast Guard received a report of a missing swimmer near Jan Thiel.
The report was filed by the Curaçao Police Force (KPC). According to the information, a 76-year-old local woman had gone swimming toward the raft at Jan Thiel but did not return.
The MOC immediately dispatched the crew of the DASH patrol aircraft, which quickly flew to the area. From the aircraft, a woman was spotted in the water near the coast in the vicinity of ‘Doggy Beach.’ The Coast Guard helicopter was then deployed to transport the woman to Hato.
Sadly, paramedics at Hato were unable to resuscitate her.
The Coast Guard extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
