Launch of Caribbean Guilder on March 31, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - The Caribbean Gulden will be launched on March 31, 2025, according to the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS). The bank has outlined a timeline indicating until when payments can be made with the old currency, the Antillean Guilder.

Until June 30, 2025, it will be possible to make cash payments with the old currency. March 31, 2026, will be the last day to exchange the currency at the major banks on the islands. Thirty years later, on March 31, 2055, will be the final day to exchange it at the Central Bank, as reported by the CBCS.

The code representing the new currency will change from ANG to XCG. "The change in the currency unit will not affect its value, 1 ANG will remain equal to 1 XCG," stated CBCS. Additionally, the exchange rate with the dollar will not change unless the current rate fluctuates.

People need not worry that the cost of living will increase due to the introduction of the Caribbean Gulden. According to CBCS, this will not affect supermarket prices.
