Kranshi Issues Nearly 1,000 New ID Cards Ahead of Primary Elections

WILLEMSTAD – In preparation for the upcoming primary elections, the Department of Civil Affairs (Kranshi) assisted 993 citizens in obtaining a new sédula (identification card) over the weekend. This special service aimed to help eligible voters without a valid ID card or those with expired identification.

The initiative took place on Saturday and Sunday, ensuring that those wishing to participate in the primary elections had the necessary identification to exercise their voting rights. By the end of the service period on Sunday, Kranshi confirmed that 993 voters had successfully applied for a new sédula.

As part of the process, citizens who returned their old ID card paid a reduced fee of 15 guilders, while those who had lost their identification were required to pay 25 guilders for a replacement card. Among the 993 applications, 136 individuals reported their ID cards as lost.

This initiative reflects the government's commitment to facilitating voter participation and ensuring that all eligible citizens have the proper documentation to take part in the electoral process.
