Kousa Promé: Corruption is the Biggest Issue in Governance

WILLEMSTAD – Corruption is the biggest problem within the governance of Curaçao, according to Kousa Promé. The party has made the fight against corruption a central focus of its action plan for the March 21 elections, party leader Giselle Rosalia stated during a press conference yesterday.

To combat corruption within the government, Kousa Promé plans to establish an Integrity Institute, which will be responsible for education and training on integrity. The party is also advocating for harsher penalties for individuals who incite corruption.

Integrity training courses will be made mandatory for all civil servants, parliamentarians, and government officials. Additionally, oversight bodies such as the General Audit Chamber, SBAB, SOAB, and the Ombudsman will be strengthened and equipped to carry out unrestricted investigations into all ministries, foundations, and government-owned companies, Rosalia explained. The Customs Office, Coast Guard, SBTNO, and the Ministry of Economic Development will also receive enhanced resources.

Rosalia further announced the creation of a forensic investigation team to examine corruption cases from the past three decades. The party will ensure that the statutes of all government-owned entities, foundations, and organizations are reviewed, allowing oversight bodies to access all necessary information for investigations without restrictions.

Furthermore, a Whistleblower Protection Law will be introduced to safeguard individuals who report corruption.
