Korpodeko awarded half of Insel Air's assets in court ruling

WILLEMSTAD - The Korpodeko foundation has been granted half of the assets of the bankrupt airline Insel Air through a judicial ruling. This compensation is intended to cover Insel Air's outstanding debt to Korpodeko.

The assets awarded include financial assets, spare parts, and flight equipment.

This decision follows an appeal filed by Korpodeko against the insolvency trustee of Insel Air and the Maduro & Curiel's Bank (MCB). Initially, the foundation lost the case, but it successfully strengthened its claim on appeal. The Court of Appeal ruled that Korpodeko is entitled to a significant portion of the assets, including Insel Air's claims on Venezuela.

Insel Air, which was declared bankrupt in February 2019, had substantial debts to Korpodeko. The airline had also claimed millions of dollars in receivables from Venezuela, a sum that remains uncertain to this day.

This ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing legal and financial issues surrounding the once-popular airline.
