Kickoff for the stripping of the Plaza Hotel in Punda begins

WILLEMSTAD - Today marks an important milestone in the redevelopment of Waterfort Plaza. The stripping of the former Plaza Hotel has officially commenced with a ceremonial kickoff by Evelyn Kruithof-Bor, CEO of APC, and Deputy Director Ramiro Griffith. By removing the fencing and brick wall, the old entrance of the former hotel was unveiled. The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of VVRP, APC board members, a member of the APC Investment Committee, employees of APC Real Estate, Heren2, and contractor MNO Vervat.

Significant Step in the Redevelopment of Waterfort Plaza The stripping of the Plaza hotel complex marks the next phase in the redevelopment of Waterfort Plaza. This follows the successful removal of asbestos in 2022 and paves the way for future demolition work. Stripping is crucial for the safety of the surrounding area and prevents damage to the historic Waterfort from falling objects.

Essential Preparations and Sustainability Preparations for the stripping have been thorough and meticulous, including a tender process, the drafting of various plans and studies, and meetings with authorities for necessary approvals. Information sessions have also been held with stakeholders to keep everyone informed.

A key aspect of this phase is sustainability. APC and MNO Vervat are committed to reusing materials through 'MarktPlaza'. Materials and objects that can be given a second life will be offered to the public, in line with APC's ESG objectives. The date for MarktPlaza will be announced in the media later.

Safety First The stripping is being carried out by contractor MNO Vervat, under the supervision of an expert team. The safety of both workers and the surrounding area is paramount. Strict safety protocols and specialized tools are being used to minimize disruption.

Temporary Changes and Communication The work began this week and is expected to be completed by the end of October this year. During this period, sections of the surrounding parking lots and Waterfortstraat will be temporarily closed to ensure logistics and safety. Stakeholders have been informed, and APC is communicating the progress of the work through various channels.
