WILLEMSTAD – The Jewish Museum Curaçao has announced that it has successfully completed its start-up phase and is now fully prepared to enter the high season with renewed confidence and energy. Over the past months, the museum has refined its operations, upgraded facilities, and improved the overall visitor experience.
According to the museum, a growing number of visitors from Europe, North America, Latin America, and the wider Caribbean have found their way to the site, reflecting its increasing international appeal.
Preparing for Cruise Season
With the upcoming cruise season in mind, the museum has expanded its opening hours and invested in additional audio tour devices. Starting in October, weekly guided tours will also be offered every Thursday morning, catering to both individual visitors and groups.
Focus on Education
In November, the museum will launch new educational modules for secondary schools. One of these programs will highlight Curaçao’s role during the Second World War, with special attention to George Maduro, the Curaçao-born war hero.
Another module will focus on Anne Frank, addressing not only the Holocaust but also contemporary issues such as racism, bullying, and exclusion. Teachers will be trained to engage with these sensitive subjects in the classroom, and the lesson packages will be made available online to reach a wider audience.
These educational initiatives are being developed in collaboration with the Anne Frank House and the Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam, ensuring both historical accuracy and global relevance.
Heritage and Reflection
A notable innovation is the redesign of the museum’s courtyard, which has been made fully wheelchair accessible. The space now features replicas of gravestones from Curaçao’s historic Jewish cemeteries, offering visitors a place for reflection on faith, life, and legacy.
Through these efforts, the museum seeks to make the history of Curaçao’s Jewish community both tangible and personal, connecting heritage with present-day themes of remembrance and resilience.
