Javier Silvania: 'About half of organizations have met requirement of 12.5 percent cut'

WILLEMSTAD - About half of the foundations, associations and government limited companies have met the requirement of a 12.5 percent cut on fringe benefits. This is apparent from an overview that the Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania, has sent to Parliament.

The list includes 43 organizations that have actually cut their employment conditions by 12.5%, as agreed with the Netherlands and liquidity support was provided based on this. Several organizations have indicated that they have made a cut, but not all employees have to hand in 12.5 percent due to reorganization.

There are also institutions that indicate that they have complied, but they do not employ staff, such as Buskabaai and Curaçao Development Institute. At Bureau Telecommunication and Post (BTP) the cut has been implemented for only one year.

Some of the organizations have not responded or a lawsuit is underway, and no information has yet been provided to Silvania.

It is stated at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) that a judgment has been rendered on this matter and that the hospital does not fall under the operation of the National Ordinance Shortening Employment Conditions 2020.

Several healthcare institutions have filed an objection with the Undersecretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Raymond Knops (CDA).

Saba Bank Resources, Development Bank of the Netherlands Antilles and the Dutch Caribbean Air Navigation Service Provider indicate that it is legally complicated because the organizations have several shareholders in addition to Curaçao.
