“Increasing waste taxation should be accompanied by modernization”

WILLEMSTAD - The increase in the waste tax does not necessarily have adverse consequences for the pollution in Curacao. That is what Timo Brouwer of Environmental and Recycling Company GreenForce says.

According to Brouwer, people who dump their waste illegally are often not the people who do not pay the tax or who dispose of their trash in nature.

Brouwer does state that there are no positive consequences either. According to him, the increase should actually be accompanied by changes and innovations in waste processing.

According to him, the fact that this is not happening is disappointing, because Curaçao has been using an environmentally-unfriendly method of waste disposal for decades.
