Importers predict scarcity of Christmas trees

WILLEMSTAD - There is a worldwide shortage of Christmas trees. The importers in Curaçao are also affected by this shortage. The transport costs are higher, because the costs of the containers are much higher than before. This is a result of the global corona pandemic.

The Dutch Association of Purchasing Managers (Nevi) reports that there are longer delivery times in Europe. Never before has such a shortage of materials been measured. For these reasons, Christmas trees have become scarce and the prices of the trees will most likely rise. It is not yet known how much the trees will increase in price.

Curaçao has several importers of Christmas trees. Roosevelt Center is the largest importer, followed by Alivio, Kooyman and Goon Lee. This year, approximately 17,000 trees will be delivered.
