WILLEMSTAD - Police officers do not go out on the streets with the intention to beat people up. This is what the police say in response to carnival images that are distributed via social media.

These images show how a man lying on the ground gets a kick from an agent. According to the police, the images do not tell the whole story. But investigation must show which story is the truth.

The police corps was heavily criticized by the community over their behavior during the big parade. It must be noted though that during the parade at several locations, fights broke out. These were usually because of alcohol abuse.

The police said in a press conference that they will continue with the same zero tolerance during the final parade.
