“High risk of collapse at Cinelandia”

WILLEMSTAD - According to the government, the Cinelandia building in Punda can be demolished immediately. There is an acute risk of collapse. The Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning has announced this in response to the two organizations that threatened with a court case.

Last Friday, Minister Zita Jesus-Leito ordered Cinelandia to be demolished. Yesterday, the organizations took the step to court to stop that. But according to the ministry, no lengthy process should be started now because the risk of collapse is high.

If someone is injured or something is damaged, the government is responsible, says the ministry of Spatial Planning. Should Cinelandia owner Fernando da Costa Gomez not take action in the coming month, the government will carry out the demolition and recover the costs from the owner.
