WILLEMSTAD - The member of the Dutch party VVD Henk Kamp becomes Minister of Defense and resigns from his membership of the Financial Supervision Boards (Cft) for the CAS (Curaçao, Aruba, St. Maarten) and BES (Bonaire, St. Eustatius, Saba) islands.

Kamp will succeed Minister Ank Bijleveld. She resigned as a result of the evacuation operation from Afghanistan. Kamp was Minister of Social Affairs in the Rutte I cabinet. In Rutte II he became Minister of Economic Affairs.

The Act on finances of public bodies Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba stipulates that being a member of the Cft is in contradiction with being a minister. Kamp has been a member of the Cft since 1 July 2018. This year he started a new three-year term. When Kamp decided to participate in the Cft at the time, a majority of the Aruban parliament opposed him. They thought Kamp was too political.
