Heavy rainfall causes disruption in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - Several parts of Curaçao were hit by heavy rainfall last night, leading to disruptions and issues in various sectors. ENNIA, an insurance company, had to close its doors due to significant flooding.

Some radio stations experienced system problems, resulting in broadcasts starting later than usual. Radio Hoyer could still broadcast from the studio, but the transmission towers on the Tafelberg were no longer functioning.

Due to the heavy rainfall and flooding, some schools sent their students home to allow the cleaning crews to clean the water-filled classrooms. This was the case at Albert Schweitzer secondary school in Saliña. Students were sent back home.

The heavy downpours started on Monday evening in different parts of Curaçao, resulting in floods and other issues. In some areas, traffic was disrupted because the roads were impassable due to high water levels. Other areas experienced problems with power supply and the internet.
