GroenLinks wants Dutch to be treated as a foreign language

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The Members of Parliament for the Dutch party GroenLinks believes that the school exams in Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba should take more account the fact that Dutch is a foreign language for the vast majority of students.

Two Members of Parliament from the party asked written questions about this to Minister Arie Slob of Education. They point out that not only the exam assignments in Dutch raise a threshold. But also, that this requires knowledge of the Dutch context to understand them.

They fear that this will have a negative effect on the chances of success.
