Government makes an effort to preserve Ka'i orgel

WILLEMSTAD - Everything about the Ka'i orgel (the cylinder piano) is documented and lessons for schools are developed to protect this important instrument of the Curaçao music heritage.

Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé announced last Thursday during a press conference that 2019 will be the year of the Ka'i orgel. According to the Minister, through documentation and information, the government will preserve the Ka'i orgel. There are still about 60 of the cylinder pianos on the island. 21 Of which are registered.

The government wants to work on nation building this year by focusing on music history. By emphasizing the identity of the island, the government wants to connect people.
